    Urinary Tract Problems:

It is common for dogs to suffer from lower urinary tract problems. These are diseases of the ureters, bladder or urethra. A major cause of urinary problems is the formation of bladder stones. If your dog is suffering from bladder stones, your vet will usually prescribe a special diet and/or medication, as well as provide care advice.

    Royal Canin Urinary S/O:

Royal Canin has developed a method that makes it possible to determine the S/O Index of a nutritional food. The S/O Index is based on the acidity (pH) of the urine, the urine volume, and the concentration of the different components in the urine that can cause stones to form. The low S/O index of Royal Canin Urinary S/O dissolves struvite stones, and prevent both struvite and calcium oxalate stones.

    Key Features:

Royal Canin Urinary S/O effectively dissolves struvite thanks to its special composition. In addition, the formation of struvite crystals (fewer available phosphate ions required for the formation of struvite) is limited, along with the formation of urinary calculi and bacteria. An increase in urine volume is caused by a slightly increased sodium content (which allows for increased moisture absorption), which limits the formation of the two most common stones (struvite and calcium oxalate).

    Uses:

    Bacterial cystitis (bladder infection)
    Dissolving struvite stones
Prevention of recurring urinary tract stones (struvite and calcium oxalate).

Please note: In older animals it is recommended that the renal function is monitored regularly by your veterinarian, even before the first use (due to the slightly increased sodium content).

    Do not use with:

Puppies or pregnant / lactacting dogs
    Dogs with chronic kidney disease
    Metabolic acidosis
    Heart failure
Dogs that take urine acidifying medication
Dogs with pancreatitis or a history of the condition
    Dogs with hyperlipidaemia

It is recommended that the renal function in older animals is monitored regularly by your veterinarian.

    Advice:

In order to dissolve the struvite stones and fully treat urinary tract infections (in conjunction with antibiotics), the dog must be given the food for at least 5 to 12 weeks. Once the urinary tract infection is gone (following a bacteriological examination by your veterinarian) continue to use for at least one month.
